The Old Proverb

Reid, the television repairman, arrived at the Denker home and found his way was blocked by a snarling, barking dog. "Don't be afraid of him," exclaimed Mrs. Denker. "You know the old proverb 'A barking dog never bites.'"
"Yeah," said the repairman. "You know the old proverb. I know the old proverb. But does the dog know the old proverb?"
